{Product Review} Cruisin’ with the Ergo Baby Carrier
We recently spent a week and a half on a cruise around the Loyalty Islands. My poor hubby had shoulder surgery two weeks before we left so I knew I’d be doing all the lifting and carrying of Dora. I had heard great things about the Ergo Baby Carrier from few of my friends. In fact, they raved about it. I already own another baby carrier but Dora outgrew it at about 10 months old. Back then, I preferred using the pram because my back would get quite achy.
What appealed to me about the Ergo Baby, was that I could wear it on my back or front. I did a bit of research and decided that I’d buy one and, of course, I couldn’t resist the Petunia Pickle Bottom range. Prepared for anything, it was time for us to go cruising.
It was ideal for keeping Dora safe when travelling on shuttle buses and walking around busy areas. We watched performances aboard the ship and strolled its decks. It saved having to wait for lifts, instead we took the stairs and if Dora fell asleep, we’d pull the little hood over her head and she’d sleep for over a hour. Most importantly, it was perfect for when we were dining at the buffet. I could have my hands free and serve myself food.
One particular day, we headed to an Island. When we arrived, the heavens opened and it poured with rain from when our shoes hit the wharf. Hundreds of people queued to get back on the boats to return to the ship. We were lucky to have the only little square of shelter. Dora was snuggled up, sound asleep on my chest and didn’t wake until we got back to the ship. This was a bit of a pattern. She managed three sleeps while I was carrying her on my back when we were sight seeing on another island. She was so comfy and my back, that is usually quite achy, was well supported and felt fine. Dora is 10kg but the Ergo baby can support up to 20kg.
I would happily recommend the Ergo Baby for anyone travelling with a young family. It was really the best pre-holiday purchase I made.
Since returning from our trip, Dora will climb on my back like she would to get into the carrier. Unfortunately, there’s so buffet to go to here.

August 15, 2012 at 11:23 am (277 days ago)I use a Bjorn and I love it, but I’ve wanted to try something different. I ‘m just not sure about back carrying though, to me it would seem strange to not be able to see my baby, and wouldn’t it be difficult to get them on and off your back?

Do you have a friend who has one? Maybe you could give it a test drive first. Thanks for taking the time to read my post and for the comment.
I was always with my hubby when she was riding on my back. We got the hang of getting her on there after the first go. She ended up grabbing my shoulders and wanting to get on my back which made it easier. Getting her off was fine too. I’d sit on a chair or a soft surface and undo the arms and she’d carefully slide off. We liked the Bjorn too but she’s just too big for it now at 17 months. Riding on my back was good when we were travelling and walking a lot. She seemed very comfy.
